The success of Veddriq Leonardo in winning the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics has brought joy and pride to the Indonesian nation, especially to his birthplace, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, where the “King of the World’s Climbing” hails from.

Thousands of West Kalimantan residents flooded the main streets of the city to welcome the arrival of “The Climbing King of the World from Ponti.” The festive parade, which ran from Supadio International Airport to the West Kalimantan Governor's Hall, was a tangible display of the community’s love for Veddriq.
